Care
Silk is undoubtedly one of the strongest natural fibres out there, but it's important to keep in mind that it is still a delicate material that requires special attention and care.
How to Wash Silk Scarf
Entrust the care of your silk scarf to the skilled hands of a dry cleaner. It is the best way to extend the life of your cherished piece and preserve its subtle lustre, delicate hand feel, and hand-rolled edges.
Alternatively, hand washing is also a good option. Simply place your silk scarf in cold water with a mild, silk-friendly detergent, give it a stir, and let it sit for no more than five minutes. Since silk releases dirt quickly, the process doesn't take long. To help maintain its hydrated feel, use a fabric conditioner in the final rinse, or even a small amount of hair conditioner. Then, drain the soapy mix and rinse with cool, running water. And, voila!
PS: Just keep in mind that bleach will damage your silk fibres.
Wrinkle Removal
Although steaming silk can be tricky, but we prefer it over ironing, as long as your steamer is made for delicate fabrics. If you only have an iron, make sure to turn your garment inside out, keep it slightly damp, and use a low setting. When using a steamer on dry garments, make sure the temperature doesn't get too hot, and if the steamer drips and leaves a water stain, simply dunk the item in cool water and allow it to dry. The spot should disappear easily.
Storage
Lastly, proper maintenance is key when it comes to dealing with imperfections, like wrinkles, and storing your silk pieces.
For everyday storage, hang silk items in your closet on fuzzy hangers to prevent them from slipping.
For longer-term storage, remember that moths love to feast on natural fibres like silk and wool, so always clean silk items before putting them away for the season. Ideally, place them in our silk paper wrapped in a cotton pillowcase for optimal care.
We hope these tips help you take care of your precious silk pieces and keep them looking beautiful for years to come!
